The new school year always brings about new changes. However, this year is unique, because the changes will be seen in your children's lunches. This fall Plat and Richfield school cafeterias are meeting tough new federal nutrition standards for school meals, ensuring that meals are healthy and well-balanced and provide students all the nutrition they need to succeed at school. Now is a great time to encourage your kids to choose school lunch!
School meals offer students milk, fruits and vegetables, proteins and grains, and they must meet strict limits on saturated fat and portion size.
School meals are a great value and a huge convenience for busy families. The price for the 2016-17 school year lunch will be $2.80 which includes milk.
These prices increases are mandated to bring school districts into compliancy with the Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010, which is a law designed to ensure students receive healthy, nutritional school meals. This act requires all school districts to use a government formula to help figure out what your district meals cost should be and will vary slightly from district to district. This price increase applies only to students who pay full price for their meals. Students who receive free or reduced cost meals based on their families income will not be affected. The reduced price for lunch will remain at .40 cents.
Applications for meal assistance are accepted throughout the entire school year. This application can be obtained in the office at either Plat or Richfield School or on our schools website!
We look forward to welcoming your children to the cafeteria this fall!
